You Can Finally Breathe, James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Is Leaving Viewers Satisfied
The reviews for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad have officially started rolling in, and they’re unsurprisingly … GREAT!
Those who’ve had early look at Gunn’s upcoming film have nothing but positive things to say, which is a huge relief to fans of the superhero genre.
It’s sorta funny — moviegoers have become used to DC superhero movies being awful, but because Gunn has had such a great track record in the genre, no one knew what expect.
The director is responsible for two of Marvel’s most critically acclaimed installments, Guardians of the Galaxy Volumes 1 & 2.
Gunn was fired by Disney in 2018, leaving the Guardians franchise in uncertainty after shocking old tweets of his resurfaced.
Warner Bros. and DC were quick to swoop in and steal Gunn , putting him in charge of the followup to their almost universally hated Suicide Squad from 2016.
David Ayer directed the first Suicide Squad film and although it appeared he was trying to mimic Gunn’s style from GotG, it fell short — in almost every way. Ayer’s film currently has a score of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.
IGN rated The Suicide Squad a 9/10 and even went as far as to say the film is “DC’s best film in years”.
It should be noted that Disney brought Gunn BACK for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will release as part of Marvel’s Phase 4 in 2023.
However, we’re hesitant to trust these initial reviews after similar things were said about DC’s Wonder Woman 1984. Although critics said early on that the film was great, fans were ultimately left very disappointed upon release. Read our review of WW84 for a quick rundown.
