Build Yourself a Simple Desk Setup with These Essential Items
So you’re in the market for some things that’ll spice up your desk setup, but you don’t know where to start — worry not! Here are all the things we think you’ll need, from the desk down to the cool accessories. The best part is none of these will break the bank, and rest assured — we tried them ALL out for you!
A Decent Computer Desk
This desk is for beginners (like me) who are simply looking for enough space to have a couple of monitors, a few accessories and some shelving.
It comes in a few color options so you have some wiggle room if you’re trying to match your setup to your entire living space. Personally, I opted for the all black desk, but I really love the rustic brown version as well.
The CubiCubi Computer Desk gives me enough space to hold my 27″ monitor, my 15″ MacBook Pro, a lamp, several accessories all while leaving me with tons of arm room. Not to mention the side shelves that hold a bunch of my books and extra gear!

You’re going to need a desk pad, preferrably leather, to compliment your new desk and setup. The clean-looking Knodel Desk Pad is perfect for those looking for a simple, but stylish setup.
This desk pad comes in a variety of colors — I personally purchased the blue pad, which is yellow on the reverse side, and love it. It rolls up neatly if you plan on taking it on the go, and has a nice little strap as well. My mouse perfectly glides on top of it, making mousepads a thing of the past.

Quality Laptop Stand
If you’re anything like me and use your laptop as a second monitor, then you’re going to need to invest in a laptop stand.
This Nulaxy Laptop Stand lifts your device about four inches from the desktop, bringing it to a more comfortable, eye-level height while also freeing up some space. As I mentioned before, I have a 15″ MacBook Pro which sits neatly next to my monitor on this exact laptop stand.
It’s sturdy, functional and even matches the color of my MacBook perfectly! It can even adjust to fit laptops that are 10-16 inches.

Speaking of monitors, if you’re the type to have multiple devices hooked up to your screen, then you may want to get an HDMI splitter.
Not only is my monitor connected to my MacBook, I also have it hooked up to my Xbox and Nintendo Switch for those times I need a quick gaming sesh in the middle of my work day! That’s where my GANA HDMI Switch comes in handy.
This splitter allows me to hook up all three of my devices straight to one monitor. You can switch between devices by simply toggling over to the corresponding HDMI cable. The best part? It’s extremely affordable!

Quality USB Microphone
If you plan on streaming, or you just want your setup to feel legit, then you’re going to want a decent microphone. That’s why I recommend investing in a Blue Yeti USB Mic – the best in the business!
I have the blue, uh, Blue Yeti Mic for when I feel the urge to stream, but if I’m being honest, it’s used mostly for my Zoom meetings which I rarely speak in. But hey – when I do speak, you best believe it sounds CRISP!
The Blue Yeti Mic can toggle between 4 different audio pickup settings so you can capture sound in any situation!

Since we’re talking streaming, let’s get you a decent and inexpensive webcam.
The Nexigo AutoFocus Webcam is the simplest little USB webcam you can buy. The picture is clear, 1080p and even comes with a privacy cover. Your FBI agent is punching the air right now …
The webcam is attached to a nifty arm that can sit on any surface so you’re free to move it and place it wherever you want! I use mine for random streams and for those boring Zoom meetings I mentioned earlier.

Ring Light w/ Tripod
If you don’t already have one, you need to get a ring light. Why? Because they are lifesavers when it comes to horrible lighting during livestreams, Zoom calls or just recording videos in general.
The UBeesize Selfie Ring Light has been a daily gadget for me when I’m on work calls and even when I’m filming my dumb little TikToks. It’s compact, has its own adjustable tripod and offers a few different lighting styles.

Wireless Charging Dock(s)
Reduce the amount of wires you have floating around with the Belkin 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station.
I absolutely hate wires and this charging station has been a godsend. I’m able to plop my phone, Apple Watch and AirPods all on this one device and let them all charge at once! It saves so much space and frees up your power strip from having several charging cubes plugged in. We all know how annoying that can be …
It comes in black or white, depending on which type of clean you’re going for.

Simple Headphone Stand
When you’re fixing to get a good gaming sesh in, it’s good to have your trusty headset readily available. That’s why you need a decent headphone stand/mount.
You have a couple options here — you can go for the hanging mount that clips to the side of your desk so you can keep your headset out of the way — OR, you can proudly display your headset (like me) on a mount that doubles as a cool desk decoration.
I personally use this simple headphone stand by New Bee when I’m not gaming or listening to any music. It adds a nice little touch to the overall look of your desk setup, and sometimes it’s just nice to display your gear!

Wanna have some real gamer vibes going on in your setup? Invest in LIFX Smart LED Bulbs. These Wi-Fi enabled smart devices can light up to any color you can think of and even has settings to set the vibes right.
I have mine in a little desk lamp and connected to my Alexa so all I have to do is tell her to turn my light on or off, and can even tell her what color to set it at.
Because honestly … are you really even a gamer if you don’t have something in your setup that changes colors?

Fun Neon Signs
I recently purchased this Alien Neon Sign by Luminosity and it adds the perfect touch to my setup. The lighting is good and it comes in a handful of options, in case aliens aren’t for you.
You’ll be happy to know that every option is VERY inexpensive so get on it! See the options here.
A Functional Power Strip
Lastly … you’re going to need something to plug all this stuff into, so get yourself a decent power strip.
I recently purchased this TESSAN power strip because of its small, space-saving design. As an added bonus, it comes with 3 USB ports separate from the actual outlets! The outlets themselves are also spaced out so you can fit those bulky plugs without worrying about overlap.
This power strip’s cable is 5-feet long so you have a long range of reach.
