Curses, Spells and Demons Make Witch Movies Terrifying
Movies about witches and witchcraft are the scariest horror films to watch. Witchcraft isn’t just mysterious and creepy … it’s an actual thing people do! Here are our picks for the scariest witch movies to watch right now …
The Ritual (2017)
The Ritual follows a group of friends as they embark on a hiking trip in honor of their late friend who died in an armed robbery.
Things quickly go awry when one of them becomes injured and they’re forced to go off-trail in order to get help. The group gets lost in the woods and learn they are being stalked by someone … or something.
The group’s friendship is tested as they fight for survival and confront their inner demons. No pun intended.
The Witch (2015)
The Witch: A New England Folklore takes place in the 1600s — which is creepier for some reason.
A family is forced to live on their own and away from their settlement because of a religious dispute on a little farm next to the woods (it’s always the woods).
After the family’s baby goes missing, the family begins to crumble. The eldest daughter Thomasin is largely blamed because the baby disappeared on her watch.
Soon after, strange things start happening to the family, leading to an extremely creepy ending.
Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
Rosemary’s Baby is one of those movies you need to watch more than once when you realize what you were missing.
When Rosemary Woodhouse and her husband move into a nice new apartment in NYC, things seem perfect for the couple. However, when Rosemary notices there’s something not quite right with her neighbors, she begins to wonder if she’s losing her mind or something sinister is afoot.
The ending of Rosemary’s Baby is probably my favorite ending to any movie ever. There’s something so satisfying when a movie has an ending you don’t see coming.
I’m not a fan of older movies because they can never seem to keep my attention, but this turned out to be one of my favorite horror films!
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a non-stop thrill ride from the very beginning. The movie doesn’t waste time on setup and you’ll immediately see where it’s going, even if the characters don’t!
After police are met with a gruesome crime scene, the bodies of an entire family are sent to a local mortuary ran by a father and son. Things get weird when one of the bodies, an unidentified ‘Jane Doe,’ proves to be baffling to the two.
The two start trying to solve the mystery of the unknown woman, but the closer they get, the crazier their night becomes.
Hereditary (2018)
Hereditary is easily the creepiest movie about witchcraft on this list.
When Annie Graham’s mother dies, she begins to notice strange things in her life. She’s hearing things and seeing things at the corner of her eyes.
As these events start to slowly escalate, Annie begins to question whether she’s really experiencing these things or if she’s still overcome with grief from her mother’s passing.
Hereditary is one of those films that will scare the crap out of you and urge you to rewatch it so you can spot some things that were hidden in plain sight!
