Ultra-Rare Pokémon Card Sells For Record-Breaking Amount
Who said Pokémon cards were a thing of the past? This 23-year-old, extremely rare Pokémon card just broke the record for the most expensive one ever sold!
Back in 2019, an ultra-rare Pikachu Illustrator card sold for the huge sum of $195,000 — breaking the record at the time.

However, auction site ZenPlus listed another Pikachu Illustrator card earlier this month … and once again it brought brought in big money. The auction closed at a reported $250,000 — a new record for the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold!
The coveted item is PSA graded at 9-mint condition.
So … why is this card so rare?
Way back in 1997, winners of a contest were each awarded a Pikachu Illustrator card. Only 39 of the cards were given out, but as of 2020, only 11 are said to still exist. That makes it the rarest card in existence, in addition to the most expensive!
The card skyrockets in price every time one is sold due to its extreme rarity. In other words, the price is just going to keep rising. Can you imagine buying a Pokémon card for the price of a decent house?
I bet you wish you never threw out your Pokémon card collection … even the early American cards are worth a pretty penny these days!
The news comes just weeks after a rare copy of Super Mario Bros. broke the record for the most expensive video game ever sold.
Some people just have money to burn like that, you know? I can only dream to do the same one day!
