Save Yourself From Boredom With Compelling Stories, or Waste Time With Friends Online!
Sometimes you need a break from Call of Duty and Fortnite. Now that we’re under quarantine, we desperate for video games that will hold our attention with compelling stories and even games we can just spend time with our best friends … virtually. Here are some of the best games to occupy your time with during quarantine.
Games To Kill The Time
These are games that will cure your boredom with mindless fun. They’ll make the long days at home feel a lot shorter, especially when you have nothing else to do!
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
You can’t deny Animal Crossing is a highly addictive game. There’s so much to do, and with the added aspect of real-time, it’s also pleasantly challenging! Lose hours of your day collecting those bells and crafting furniture.
Stardew Valley
Remember the days of playing Farmville on Facebook? Stardew Valley is like that … but on steroids. Start a farm in a quaint little village, mine for ore in caves, build friendships with the locals and much more. There’s so much to do in this game and the developers are still busy adding updates.
Pokemon Sword & Shield
There’s not much to explain here. Pokemon Sword & Shield is just like the previous games, but in a brand new region. Use the Nintendo Switch to its full potential and play on the big screen or take it to go. You can also play co-op with a friend!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Battle it out on story mode, online or with friends in an arena! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the perfect game for mindless battles, competitive gameplay and excitement. We recommend taking breaks … it can get extremely frustrating.
Games With Interesting & Long Stories
If you’re anything like me, you enjoy games with great narratives. These are games that will take a very long time to complete and often feel like movies.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Another year, another Dragon Ball Z video game. What makes Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot stand apart from the others is its dedication to the story. Play from the beginning of the DBZ story and work your way to the most recent events. It’s like watching the original anime with updated graphics. Join in on some of the show’s most iconic battles!
Kingdom Hearts 3
It may have taken 13 years for the third true sequel to KH2, but at least it’s here. Kingdom Hearts 3 continues the epic journey of Sora, Donald and Goofy. Battle alongside Disney favorites and even some from Final Fantasy!
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII was recently released to positive reviews. A remake of the 1997 original, this game is updated in brilliant fashion. See for yourself why FF7 is one of the most iconic in the franchise’s long history.
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey is the Nintendo Switch’s first major Mario game. Take Mario on a journey from planet to planet collecting moons along the way. With fun gameplay and awesome settings, this is another win for Nintendo’s iconic franchise.
Uncharted 4
The Uncharted franchise has some of the best storytelling in the gaming industry. It’s like playing a National Treasure movie, but better! Uncharted 4 is another epic adventure from start to finish and will occupy your time for days on end.
Grand Theft Auto V
Rockstar‘s fifth installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise has already been out for 7 years. There’s a good reason GTAV remains as popular as ever. With another great story mode and more violence than ever, this game will hold your attention for a long time.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Another Rockstar masterpiece, Red Dead Redemption 2 is GTA, but in the old west. Take another long journey through beautiful landscapes and exciting gameplay. It’s like playing through an old western movie. Even the dad’s would enjoy this game!
Batman: Arkham Knight
The Batman Arkham series is the closest thing to being the Dark Knight himself. Batman: Arkham Knight is the final (?) installment in the highly acclaimed series, and possibly the most fun. Drive around Gotham in the Batmobile, and fly from building to building while beating up thugs. It’s as fun as it sounds, trust me.
The Last of Us
The Last of Us is the best zombie video game to date. It’s arguably one of the best video game stories of all time, and they’re even making a movie based on it! Battle gross zombies while protecting yourself from murderous people as well. The story will keep you engaged for many gameplay hours to come. The good news is the much anticipated sequel is coming very soon.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Take on the Empire as a former Jedi on the run. Wield the force, customize your lightsaber and explore the vast Star Wars universe! Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is easily one of my favorite games in the last year in terms of story and gameplay together.
The World Ends With You
I’ll go to my grave trying to convince people to pick up The World Ends With You. This underrated game has an incredibly fascinating story and the soundtrack is so great. Part thriller part fantasy game, TWEWY takes players on a mysterious journey through Tokyo and gets going right away. You may not know what’s going on for most of the game … but as you near the end, everything starts making sense. Originally for the Nintendo DS, TWEWY is now available on the Switch.
Games To Play With Friends Online
Since we can’t exactly hang out with friends these days, gaming online is the next best option. These are games you can spend time with friends virtually and kill time with each other. Some of these games are mentioned above as well, but also offer great online experiences.
Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V is far more popular while playing online than the story mode. Join crews, buy lavish cars and penthouses and gamble. There’s no shortage of activities to participate in on GTA Online. Waste plenty of hours running around Los Santos with friends while terrorizing other players.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley recently added a multiplayer option so you can play with friends. Start a farm together and work with each other to earn money and grow crops. Although a lot of the work is done solo, it’s oddly comforting knowing your friends are right there working with you.
Borderlands 3
I absolutely loved Borderlands 3, but didn’t include it in the above list. The reason is because although the story is interesting, it’s far too stuffed to really get into. Where BL3 shines is when you play with your buddies. Unlike the majority of shooters, BL3 allows you to play through the entire story in an online co-op with friends. This is so fun and there are so many side missions and hundreds of guns to find, you’ll be playing nonstop for a while.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
Just Like BL3, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint allows you to play through the entire story mode in an online co-op with friends. Work together to take down terrorists and save an island in this beautiful open world. With tons of customizable aspects, you’ll be competing with friends on who has the best gear.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Bringing this list by going full-circle, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Just like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing will have you working alone, but gives you the option to have friends come over to your island for fun. Swap furniture, catch bugs together and much more. It’s truly the best of both time-wasting and multiplayer games!
