Billie Eilish, Col3trane, Kaiit & More for Your Summer Playlist
Here are our choices for the Best New Songs to ring in Summer 2019. Add them to your playlists now to start off the season the right way. From favorites like Billie Eilish to up-and-coming artists like Kevin Abstract, we got you.
Kevin Abstract- Baby Boy
Leader of the BrockHampton collective, Kevin Abstract is making waves in the rap game. Straight from Corpus Christi, Texas, Abstract is finding his own place in the industry. He’s compared constantly to Tyler the Creator, but Kevin Abstract’s sound is more complex and melodic. His latest album, ‘Arizona Baby‘, even featured another artist we stan, Dominic Fike.
Kaiit- Miss Shiney
This new artist from Melbourne has a refreshing sound with a sick rhythm and flow. Inspired by artists like SZA, Kaiit is ready to shake up the R&B scene. Miss Shiney is a track that you can’t help but sway your body to. We’re looking forward to hearing more from her in the future.
Vampire Weekend- This Life
With the recent release of their 4th studio album, ‘Father of the Bride‘, Vampire Weekend is having a resurgence. We previously recommended their single Harmony Hall, but the entire album is fairly solid. This Life is another upbeat track that sounds much like the VW we know and love.
Still Woozy- Foolsong
Still Woozy, whose government name is Sven Gamsky, is slowly creeping out of Oakland, California. All of his tracks are produced straight out of his garage studio setup. Woozy’s chill sound will leave you feeling ‘woozy’, and has hints of Tame Impala in his DNA. If this ain’t on your Summer 2019 playlist, then you’re doing it wrong!
Col3trane- Problems In Us
Joining our group of artists with cool names is Cole Basta, aka, Col3trane. His new single, Problem In Us, has a unique sound, but also carries hints of Frank Ocean. Col3trane, who is in his early 20’s, is currently making a name for himself in the UK, being highlighted on BBC Radio. His mixtape from last year, ‘Boot‘, is available now, but expect new music very soon.
Billie Eilish- Wish You Were Gay
Billie Eilish is a future superstar, especially after the release of ‘When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?‘. Her debut album as several standout tracks, but Wish You Were Gay is probably the funnest. She has a way with songwriting by using clever concepts to build around. If you haven’t listened to Billie, we highly recommend it!
Tyler the Creator- Boy is a Gun
Tyler’s latest album, ‘Igor‘, is an incredible departure compared to his music from 5 years ago. He’s matured, refined and has more depth to his lyrics. Our boy is growing! Pretty much all of the tracks are manipulated and psychedelic, but considering where he came from, it’s a nice change of pace. We’re proud of him *sniffle*.
