I Fell in Love With ‘The Beths’
Here & there, Spotify will introduce you to your new obsession.. and it did just that for me with The Beths. A band from New Zealand. Name another band from New Zealand if you can — I’ll start *cue the sound of crickets*. I’ve got nothin’, just them.
Anyway, The Beths are a four-piece, female-fronted indie/pop/rock band that everyone I’ve recommended them to have taken interest in. They put out a new record, conveniently, about two weeks after I first discovered them (with Spotify’s help) — an LP entitled, Future Me Hates Me, titled after the lead single from the record.
Stolen from their press-release, “The Beths occupy a warm, energetic sonic space between joyful hooks, sun-soaked harmonies, and acerbic lyrics. Their debut album “Future Me Hates Me,” forthcoming on Carpark Records, delivers an astonishment of road-trip-ready pleasures, each song hitting your ears with an exhilarating endorphin rush like the first time you heard Slanted and Enchanted or “Cannonball.” Check out the video for the lead single, and title of the album, “Future Me Hates Me.”
Currently signed to Carpark Records, these guys are about to embark on a U.S. tour, and may be making there way to your neighborhood sometime soon. I’m excited to be seeing them at the Mercury Lounge on the day before the Brooklyn show listed on the below tour poster.
