Yes, you read that correctly. Tom Cruise might be our new Green Lantern. If there’s one thing that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment know how to do (and have the resources for), it’s getting big-name celebrities to star in their comic book movies.
Although their movies fail to deliver a cohesive storyline, there’s no denying that the DC Universe is action-packed and contains some of the biggest and best actors in the world. I mean, Ben Affleck is Batman. That was a huge get for DC.
Now there are reports that Tom Cruise is in talks and very close to being cast as the DC Universe’s Green Lantern. Possibly Hal Jordan?
This is only a rumor but with Mission Impossible: Fallout doing huge numbers at the box office and being received with rave reviews, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for DC and Warner Bros to capitalize on his success and if you ask me, it’s better to do it now than to wait until Cruise’s age finally catches up to him.
ComicBook.com reports that Cruise initially passed on the role after finding out that Hal Jordan will possibly die in the movie. If you know Tom Cruise at all, you know that if he’s in a movie, he’s the star. Period.
I have no opinions on Tom Cruise but after watching Mission Impossible: Fallout, I think casting him as the Green Lantern in the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie would be a fantastic idea. Although no production has begun and is in the very early stages, maybe this rumor can speed up the process and garner more anticipation for the film. I hope so!
