ARE THE AVENGERS GOING SUB-ATOMIC?
So by now we have all seen Avengers: Infinity War and had our hearts broken. We all have different feelings about what happened, but we can’t deny it was a great movie from beginning to end. Many questions remain unanswered and we have no idea how the Avengers and the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will move forward. Well, here’s one way. Remember:
**SPOILERS AHEAD**
Avengers: Infinity War
As we all saw, half of the universe was tragically wiped out with the snap of Thanos’ finger with the Infinity Gauntlet. This included some key members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, almost all of the Guardians of the Galaxy and many more.
If you stuck around for the end-credits scene then you saw that this affected the entire universe, not just a portion. We see Lt. Fury and Maria Hill turned to ash but not before Fury would send a distress signal to Captain Marvel. During that scene, we could see that the world around was in chaos as half the population suddenly disintegrates into ash.
However, before the infamous snap, Dr Strange uses the Time Stone to travel into the future to see over 14 million timelines and scenarios before he finds one in which they can beat Thanos.
A short time later, after an epic battle on Titan, Thanos acquires the Time Stone and teleports back to Earth, leaving Iron-Man, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, and Dr Strange on the dead planet. Dr Strange explains to Tony Stark that giving up the Time Stone was “the only way.”
That can only mean that however tragic the ending of Infinity War was, it was all part of the bigger plan at hand. But what does that plan involve? The popular vote would point to time travel, but how would that be possible without the Time Stone, which is still in Thanos’ possession? I have a theory that removes the time travel aspect altogether, and it involves Ant-Man.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
With Ant-Man and the Wasp coming later this summer, we can only assume that the movie takes place before the events of Infinity War. Why do we think that? Well, for one thing, the trailer is too happy and energetic. I’m pretty sure that if it took place after Infinity War, the tone of the trailer/movie would be much different.
In the first Ant-Man movie, Hank Pym explains to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) that if a person in possession of the shrinking suit shrinks too far and goes sub-atomic, that they’ll end up stranded in what he calls the Quantum Realm. He knows because it happened to his wife, when she was The Wasp.
Hank describes the Quantum Realm as a place void of everything, even time itself. However, Scott was able to go sub-atomic thanks to a clever trick and return without getting stranded.
Judging by the trailer, it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp will be focusing on the Quantum Realm once again. Will Scott learn that going sub-atomic leads to something more than just the Quantum Realm?
This is where my theory comes into play.
The Theory
I believe that after the events of Infinity War, Scott Lang’s Ant-Man will survive the snap and join forces with the rest of the remaining Avengers. We have seen set photos from Avengers 4 that suggests we will be revisiting the Battle of New York from the first Avengers Film. This is why the popular theory remains time travel, but I’m not so sure.
I believe that the plan to defeat Thanos includes Tony Stark finding a way to collect the Infinity Stones from alternate dimensions to undo what Thano’s has done. How will he travel dimensions into alternate realities? Well, Ant-Man will take Stark sub-atomic and discover a doorway to alternate realities.
The set photos show Ant-Man, who wasn’t around during the Battle of New York, and an Infinity Wars-aged Tony Stark communicating with the Steve Rogers, who is wearing his iconic suit from the first Avengers film.
I can only assume that they have travelled to that point so that they can retrieve the Mind Stone from Loki’s staff. After that, I’m guessing we will be revisiting many familiar, but alternate realities to retrieve the other stones as well.
Taking things a step further, I also believe that by the time Avengers 4 releases next year, the Disney/20th Century Fox merger will be complete. That being said, I have a very strong feeling that we are going to be surprised with appearances from some of the Marvel characters that were not originally part of the MCU, and that they will play an integral role in bringing Thanos to justice (or they might just show up for a cool cameo).
So that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. No matter what, I’m pumped for the release of the next couple Marvel movies ahead of Avengers 4. Of course, all of this depends on what happens in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
What are your theories?
