If you’re looking for something wholesome to binge this month, then look no further. This April, Netflix released a quirky animated show titled Aggretsuko.
Aggretsuko follows a 25 year old red panda named Retsuko who is just trying to make her way in the world- Japan, to be exact. Like all young adults, Retsuko struggles with her finding her place in the world. Is she meant to be a mindless office drone, a careless wife, or a powerful female executive?
Don’t let Aggretsuko’s appearance deceive you though. It may look like a cutesy cartoon about tiny animals, but once Retsuko’s insecurities and feelings reach a peak in her mind, she unleashes it by singing death metal at her local karaoke bar. As she screams and curses up a storm, Retsuko vents to an empty room, just to return to her less than ideal job.
Although Aggrestsuko is an adult cartoon meant to make you laugh by portraying relatable situations that all young adults face at some point, the overall message of the 10-episode season is inspiring and reassuring.
Everything is going to be alright. Don’t stress about your place in the world just yet. You may think that others have it all together, but they are fighting their own battles. We can all relate to Retsuko and her office life. Believe me, you’ll be reminded of at least one person in your life by some character in the show.
Aggretsuko is made up of ten episodes, each of which are only fifteen to twenty minutes. Each episode follows Retsuko in her daily struggles that include dealing with a boss that she hates, and the fact that she’s single. You’ll be glad you watched this series, even if it’s just for the laughs.
