We all have Netflix, but somehow we are all always looking for something to watch. With thousands upon thousands of movies in front of our faces, we spend more time browsing than we do actually watching movies. Here are my picks for the best horror movies available to watch on Netflix.
Veronica (2017)
If Veronica sounds familiar to you then it’s most likely because everyone has been talking about it in recent weeks. Some are saying that it’s the scariest movie they’ve ever seen. Although I don’t exactly agree with that review, I do agree that it’s definitely a horror movie you should have on your watch list. Veronica is a Spanish movie about a teenage girl who uses a Ouija Board in order to communicate to her deceased father. Do I need to say more? I’m pretty sure you know where this is heading.
For the best viewing experience make sure to watch in the dark!
HusH (2016)
Hush is a thrilling movie about a deaf woman who lives in the woods by herself. One night, an intruder breaks into her home, and since she’s deaf, she cannot hear him. What follows is an insane cat and mouse chase with the woman using her enhanced senses to protect herself.
The scariest thing about this movie is that she cannot hear where the intruder is, but as a viewer, you see everything. This is definitely worth a watch, and you’ll always make sure your windows are locked after you do!
It Follows (2014)
It Follows is one of those movies that kept showing up on my recommended lists, but the description always turned me off. After I finally watched it I couldn’t believe I waited four years to do so.
The premise of ‘It Follows’ is that a curse is passed on from person to person through sexual relations. So, it’s sort of like a spooky STD. Once a person has the curse, they are tormented by something (it’s hard to explain so you have to watch!) that continuously chasing them until they pass it on to someone else.
Don’t make the same mistake I did. The description does not do the movie justice. The most creepy thing about this movie is that you can imagine what it must feel like to never be able to relax. No matter how far you get away from whatever is following you, you know it’s coming and that it won’t stop.
V/H/S 2 (2013)
V/H/S 2 is the sequel to a horror anthology from a few years prior. It is the outcome of asking a few independent film makers to create a short film based on horror, and then compiling them into one movie. Now, each short film is within a movie of its own in which an investigator is trying to find a missing person.
He stumbles across a home with a collection of V/H/S tapes, each containing a recording. These recordings are what you watch. V/H/S has everything from demons to zombies. Every short film is a little different, but one stands out among them all. All I’m going to say is….Thailand Cults.
The Invitation (2015)
The Invitation did not interest me at first. The synopsis is pretty simple. A guy and his girlfriend go to a dinner party at a friends house. The twist? The “friend” is our main character’s ex-wife. Throughout the dinner party, we see drama unfold as he cannot shake the feeling that something is wrong.
This is one thriller that’ll keep you guessing until the spectacular finale. You find yourself feeling so bad for this guy because we all know how it feels to look crazy when you know something is amiss.
Train to Busan (2016)
Train to Busan takes the top prize on my list. It’s a good old fashioned zombie movie, but the twist is that it takes place on a moving train. It’s in Korean but the action and suspense is so good, you won’t mind reading through the subtitles.
You won’t see where this movie is going until the very end!
