The iPhone X
Well, the Apple Event has finally come and gone. After months of speculation and intrigue, Apple has finally confirmed their new models, one of which unsurprisingly comes at a staggering price. On top of announcing the iPhone 8 & iPhone 8Plus, we finally got confirmation of the special project that Apple had under their sleeve: iPhone X. The iPhone X starts at an intimidating $999 but features some never before seen technology. Let’s break the iPhone X down:
As expected, Apple has finally done away with the Home Button, making the front of the device entirely screen. It stretches 5.8 inches and curves nicely where the bezels once were. Featuring Apple’s first Super Retina Display, the screen has a 2436×1125 resolution with 458ppi that gives it a brilliantly popping color spectrum. The OLED panelling allows it to have colorful accuracy.
iPhone X’s front facing camera features top of the line technology that I can’t pretend that I understand which Apple calls TrueDepth. This technology allows the camera to map out your face and recognize you specifically. This allows you to unlock the phone by simply looking at it. This essentially replaces the need for the fingerprint scanner and is allegedly way more secure. Not only can it unlock your phone, you can use it for authentication and ApplePay as well. The camera itself is much improved from past iterations of the iPhone and takes beautiful selfies in which you can utilize studio-quality lighting straight through the app itself.
The back camera has a dual lens 12MP sensor. Stabilization features are used to create awe inspiring photography.
Fun Fact: You can use the facial recognition software to create animated emojis that will move and show expressions based on your very own!
Just like the good old days of the iPhone 4, the iPhone X features front and black glass that Apple claims is the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone. We still have the curved edges and stainless steel body framing but like mentioned before, no Home Button. This makes room for the larger display and full screen real estate. All other buttons are exactly where we remember them.
Said to be the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone, the iPhone X contains what Apple calls A11 Bionic. In other words, it is faster, smarter and more powerful than all other iPhones to date. Its “neural engine” is built to utilize augmented reality capabilities that are bound to start coming out of the woodwork any year now. Not only is this the first wireless charging iPhone that we’ve been waiting for, it can stay charged for up to 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7!
So the question is….Is the iPhone X worth it?
To put it simply: Considering all the never before seen technology in a single smartphone….yes. Is it necessary? No. The shocking starting price of $999 is going to be way more than the average guy can afford. Will that stop people? Definitely not. People will always have time and money for anything Apple releases. I love the iPhone X but I doubt I am going to drop that kind of dough anytime soon for it. I am most likely going to be rocking the iPhone 8 Plus in the meantime. I am due for an upgrade and will most likely have one before the end of next weekend. I was not too impressed with the 8/8Plus but considering the only other option is way out of my price range, I have no choice.
My Chill Opinion:
If you have the dough, get the iPhone X. If you don’t, I’m sure you’ll be happy with any other version. We will see down the road how other brands will integrate similar technology into their devices. Until then, let’s just enjoy something nice.
